I stand here
\nOne leg on the bottom step
\nOn the stairs above me
\nThinking deliberately
\nAbout just the right next moment
\nTo lift my other leg
\nJust the right way
\nSo my next step
\nWon’t trip me up
\nAnd leave me in a wheelchair
\nThe rest of my life.<\/p>\n

Every time<\/p>\n

And I create this poem
\nAs I think it.<\/p>\n

hey vet
\ntake a look at yourself
\nand smile at what you’re made of<\/p>\n

we are the 99%
\nwe gave 100%
\n110% really<\/p>\n

ain’t a zero sum
\ngame
\nennit?<\/p>\n

we get any real respect
\nor just buy one
\nget one free off the kiddy menu
\nat dennys and apple bees?<\/p>\n

you say you support the troops?
\nwhere’s my frickin’ healthcare.
\nwhy am I missing teeth
\nwhen root canals would’ve cost you pennies on the dollar
\nwhy do bush and clinton and obama keep moving me in and out of Priority group 7!
\nwhen did the gi bill
\nbecome
\nin reality an insurance program
\nnot a benefit
\nwhy does my college degree get me no new jobs
\nno raises
\nno additional health benefits
\nand no burial coverage unless I wanna just go in one of those statewide rows?<\/p>\n

why does my eczema only respond to
\nagent orange meds
\nand I’m afraid to even find out if
\ngulfwarsyndrome
\nmeds
\nwould actually
\nget rid of it!<\/p>\n

oh you fund raise off of me
\nyou make yourself look good
\nyou get yourself elected
\nyou line your pockets
\nyou say you support the troops
\nyou wear your shed, right and true colors one day
\nyou think a meanstreak
\nand you talk a mean line
\nand say you can’t thank me enough
\nthen pardon
\nmy
\nfrench
\nwhere’s
\nmy fucking
\nhealthcare.<\/p>\n

and why are one out of four
\nhomeless
\npanhandlers
\nand will-work4food signs
\nmy brothers and sisters?<\/p>\n

I’m a veteran
\nI’m the neo urban american warrior society
\nI bury my dead, I take care of children and elders
\nwhether they’re mine or not
\nI think large thoughts on behalf of you and me and everyone else
\nAnd lastly me, really.
\nI’m the warrior society, the 99%, the bled, the light and the glue.
\nI served all of yall<\/p>\n
